Can I have orthodontics if I'm pregnant?

Can I have orthodontics if I'm pregnant?

Is it dangerous to have orthodontics during pregnancy? Many pregnant women consider fixing their teeth during a long period of pregnancy, thinking that orthodontics will neither bleed nor undergo major surgery, and should have no impact on the body. But often after going to the hospital for an examination, she was told by the dentist that she could not do orthodontics during pregnancy.

So the question is:

Why can't pregnant women receive orthodontic treatment?

1. First of all, during pregnancy, the hormone levels of pregnant women increase, and the gums are prone to redness and swelling,

which affects the quality of the teeth and causes loose teeth,

so it is best not to do these things during pregnancy.

2. There are many sensitive nerves on the teeth. It is inevitable to encounter these nerves during orthodontics.

Nerve stimulation will cause shrinkage and other problems, which will affect the development and growth of the fetus.

3. It is inevitable that orthodontic teeth will cause toothache. Many people are unable to eat or cannot eat because of toothache.

The stomachs of pregnant women and babies are in urgent need of nutrition during this special period. Toothache is one of the causes of malnutrition in children.

This is one of the main reasons for correction. Even if it is because of toothache, you should not take painkillers that affect the fetus.

4. Orthodontic treatment may also involve tooth extraction. Tooth extraction has certain risks. During pregnancy, it is impossible to recommend surgery,

so it is best to wait until the end of pregnancy before tooth extraction and orthodontic treatment.

Is Invisalign suitable for pregnant women?

For some dental institutions, it can be done during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but before starting orthodontic treatment, X-rays are generally required, or some oral problems need to be dealt with, so it is best to have an oral examination before pregnancy, and some oral symptoms should also be done in advance deal with.

In theory, once you have braces on, it doesn't matter if you're pregnant or breastfeeding. Just pay more attention to your oral hygiene. But in fact, many people wear braces after pregnancy, and their compliance becomes poor, which leads to a prolonged correction period.

That said, if you can't consistently wear your braces (more than 22 hours a day, or at least 20 hours a day), it will likely take longer to achieve the desired results.

In short, for the health of yourself and your baby, oral problems during pregnancy cannot be ignored. If you want to correct it,

you should consult in advance or ask the relevant doctor if it is suitable?
