What is a wedge defect?
A wedge-shaped defect is a chronic hard tissue defect that commonly occurs in the lips, cheeks, and neck of teeth. A typical flaw consists of two jaws, a large opening and a small base.
Often multiple teeth are damaged at the same time, mostly near the corners of the mouth, more in the upper jaw than in the lower jaw.
How is the wedge-shaped defect caused?
1) Improper brushing
Wrong way of brushing teeth, such as horizontal brushing, using a bristle toothbrush, excessive brushing force, excessive particle diameter in toothpaste and other factors.
2) Stress factors
When the tooth is subjected to force, the stress is concentrated at the neck of the tooth, and long-term stress concentration will cause fatigue of the hard tissue of the tooth.
Especially the individual teeth that cause malocclusion trauma.
3) The role of acid
The enamel at the neck is thin or missing, surrounded by a gingival sulcus. The acid secretion in the gingival sulcus acts on the neck for a long time, which is easy to cause damage.
