Precautions after dental implant surgery in Macau

Care after dental implant surgery is essential to ensure smooth wound healing. Here are some precautions for patients after dental implant surgery in Macau to help you take proper care of your wound within 1 to 2 weeks after surgery.

1. Reduce wound irritation

Resting after surgery is the key to wound recovery. Dental implants are one of the surgeries, but many patients tend to overlook this. In order to help the wound heal better, we have compiled some post-operative care points for you:

· Hemostasis and wound protection: After surgery, avoid biting food, spitting, or touching the wound with your tongue. Try to avoid strenuous exercise and swimming. Slight bleeding from the wound is normal, but if it persists, contact us immediately.

· Diet and wound recovery: Two weeks after surgery is a critical period for initial tissue healing, and irritation of the implant site should be avoided as much as possible. It is recommended to eat liquid and soft foods at room temperature or cold, such as juice, soy milk, milk and cold noodles, etc., to avoid affecting wound healing.

· Take your medications on time: Depending on each patient's condition, the doctor may prescribe antibiotics, pain relievers, etc., so be sure to take them on time.

· Pain management: Pain may occur after surgery, and the doctor will prescribe painkillers, so please take them as directed.

· Bleeding management: A small amount of bleeding is normal after surgery and can be treated with ice to help stop bleeding within 48 hours. If the bleeding is heavy or doesn't stop, see your doctor as soon as possible.

· Swelling management: Ice can be applied for 48 hours after surgery to reduce swelling and discomfort, and rest for 30 minutes after 15 to 30 minutes. After 48 hours, switch to a warm compress to help the swelling subside. Some patients may experience localized bruising within a few days after surgery, which usually resolves spontaneously after a few days, independent of infection.

2. Oral health care

During the 1 to 2 weeks after the implant, the wound needs time to heal, during which time overstimulation should be avoided, but at the same time the mouth should be kept clean:

· Avoid rinsing your mouth vigorously for 48 hours after surgery. If you need to clean your mouth, it is recommended to gently suck up the water before spitting it out.

· From the time the procedure is completed until the stitches are removed, a cotton swab moistened with water can be used to clean the food debris in the mouth, and mouthwash can be gently used to keep the mouth clean.

Dietary principles: Choose warm and liquid foods to reduce the burden on wounds

Choosing the right foods can help reduce the burden on the wound after dental implant surgery, and here are the dietary recommendations for the month after surgery:

· 1 to 3 days after surgery: It is recommended to consume soft or liquid foods at room temperature, such as soy milk, steamed eggs, clear soup, pumpkin juice, juice with filtered pulp, high-strength chicken broth, pudding and cheese, etc. Avoid using a straw or chewing with the surgical area.

· 4 to 7 days after surgery: You can eat pureed or easy-to-chew foods at room temperature, such as pureed vegetables, fish, fruits, mashed potatoes and boiled eggs.

· 2 to 3 weeks after surgery: Eat soft foods such as Italy pasta, bread, stewed vegetables and fruits, and steamed fish.

· 4 weeks postoperatively: You can start to return to a normal diet, but you should avoid chewing hard foods such as nuts.
